Featured artifacts include original handwritten documents from George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and James Madison, as well as a rare edition of The Federalist Papers
For five days only, Sept. 23-27, visitors to the George W. Bush Presidential Museum can experience Up Close With History: Founding Fathers Edition, a special temporary exhibit featuring rare historic documents connected to the people and moments that shaped the nation.
This limited-time exhibit offers visitors a unique opportunity to come face-to-face with history through the words, signatures, and firsthand records of the Founding Fathers.
Artifacts in the collection, courtesy of the Harlan Crow Library, include:
- A handwritten letter from George Washington to Col. John Cadwalader, written during the Revolutionary War.
- A personal letter from Thomas Jefferson to the Marquis de Lafayette.
- A handwritten letter from Alexander Hamilton to Samuel Hodgdon, written during the Whiskey Rebellion.
- A letter from James Madison to the agents of the United States for the relief and protection of American seamen.
- A portrait of George Washington by Robert Edge Pine, painted in 1785.
- An early 19th century portrait of Dolley Madison by William Dunlap.
The collection will be on display in the Cabinet Room, presented by Jennifer and Ron Christie, inside the George W. Bush Presidential Museum and is included with museum admission.
Credentialed media are welcome to visit the exhibit the morning of September 23 between 10 a.m. and noon CT. Media should register for credentials here by Monday, September 21, at noon CT.
