Anne Wicks, the Bush Institute Ann Kimball Johnson Education Reform Initiative Director, gives her Two-Minute Take on what the American Rescue Plan means for education and what parents and teachers should think about as states and districts begin to make decisions.

Through the American Rescue Plan, Congress has allocated $123 billion for K-12 education. What should parents, grandparents, teachers, and guardians expect from their school districts? Anne Wicks, Bush Institute Ann Kimball Johnson Education Reform Initiative Director, provides four recommendations.

  1. Funds should be allocated to safely reopen campuses for full-time in-person instruction
  2. School districts should understand and address learning loss which includes testing and measuring students and using the data to invest in the right interventions to help kids get back on track
  3. School districts should invest in technology and access
  4. Parents should ask for transparency on how the funds are being allocated
