Recognizing the Need for Help and Connecting to Care

During his final deployment, Joe’s wife becomes active with a nonprofit that provides support to military families.

She learns about the symptoms of the invisible wounds of war.

When many signs of PTS and TBI return after Joe comes home, she urges him to get screened at the local vet center.

Instead, Joe decides that he will "get better" by going back to school on the GI Bill and finding a fulfilling job. A second child joins the family.

Joe struggles at school, but a classmate, also a veteran, introduces him to the local chapter of Team Red White and Blue.

Joe ultimately shares his symptoms with his new friend, who is receiving treatment at the VA for PTSD, and agrees to be screened.

Joe is diagnosed with PTSD and TBI.
