COL. Michael T. Endres to Shape Programming that Helps Raise Awareness and Support for Service Members and Military Support Organizations
The George W. Bush Institute announced the appointment of COL. Michael T. Endres as the inaugural director of the organization’s Military Service Initiative. COL. Endres joins the Bush Institute after a serving in the United States Army for 26 years. A 1986 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, COL. Endres most recently served as the Academy’s Deputy Director of Admissions.
“I am truly honored to serve with all of the talented people at the Bush Center under the visionary leadership of President and Mrs. Bush,” said COL. Endres.
The Military Service Initiative is inspired by the courage of the military, who serve and sacrifice to defend the United States in support of enduring freedom. The Initiative also highlights organizations that support U.S. service personnel and their families during deployment and after they return home.
“Honoring the men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedoms is one of the most important efforts of the Bush Institute,” said James K. Glassman, founding executive director of the Bush Institute. “We are pleased to have COL. Endres on board to help make sure we give our returning military heroes the support and attention they deserve.”
COL. Endres will focus on helping military support organizations achieve their missions more effectively by raising awareness and spotlighting best practices. COL. Endres has served in Korea, Hawaii, Oklahoma, New York, Kuwait and Iraq, as well as an instructor at West Point. His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (7 OLC), Armed Forces and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medals, Military Outstanding Volunteer Award, Overseas Ribbon (3rd Award), Air Assault Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Ranger Tab.
Two signature events of the Military Service Initiative are the Warrior Open, a 36-hole competitive golf tournament, and the Warrior 100, a 100-kilometer mountain bike ride. This week, President Bush joins 20 wounded warriors in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, just outside of Amarillo, Texas for the second W100. Both events help raise awareness for organizations supporting our military and their families, such as the Challenged Athletes Foundation, Ride 2 Recovery, World T.E.A.M. Sports and the Wounded Warrior Project
