Just before 8:00 a.m. on October 29, 2013, the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which includes the George W. Bush Library and Museum, the George W. Bush Institute, and the supporting retail components, temporarily closed.  A suspicious package was found near the Bush Avenue entrance of the Bush Institute.  Following standard protocols, the Bush Center security notified Southern Methodist University’s (SMU) police department.  SMU PD, in coordination with the appropriate authorities, including the University Park Police and Fire Departments, and Dallas Fire-Rescue Department, responded.

Once the package was determined to be non-hazardous and an all-clear was issued at 10:35 a.m., the Bush Center resumed operations with an 11:00 a.m. opening of the Bush Library and Museum and the supporting retail operations. Two SMU buildings adjacent to the Bush Center, Moody Coliseum and Crum Basketball Center, were temporarily closed and the campus was advised to avoid the area. All streets and buildings are now open and Campus activity has returned to normal.
