My name is SGM Chris Self. My wife Dana and I just spent one of the most AMAZING weeks of our lives in West Texas. The lifelong friends we made this past week and the time we shared with President Bush and other wounded service members, will forever be the best memories. The courage and strength from these 14 wounded bike riders is admirable and a huge inspiration to all.
A lot like when recovering from your injury, the support and encouragement is huge! We felt that this past week. All aspects of this week were unforgettable, from riding with President Bush, to sharing stories with fellow warriors and riders over dinner, to chatting it up with David Blaine (while he snacks on his wine glass) and Lance Armstrong. This is a week I think no one will ever forget.
In order for the warriors to experience this wonderful event, it takes a lot of hard work from a dedicated staff. President Bush has just that. Without the tireless effort from everyone putting this together it would never have gotten off the ground. I want to say thanks to all of you that made this event possible.
I look forward to the next ride and hope to ride with all the friends we have made this week. Keep training hard and have fun.
