1SG (R) Jason Vangilder joined the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic in April of 2000. He deployed for the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003. In March 2004 on his second deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I, Jason was wounded when he was struck with shrapnel from a 122mm rocket. The attack killed two of his fellow Paratroopers. He deployed a third time to Iraq in 2006. All of his physical wounds healed over time, however the mental injuries he received stayed with him.
Jason has always loved the game of golf. He learned to play at age 11 from his father, also an Army veteran of over 20 years. During Jason’s time in the military, golf took a backseat. However, over the last several years he has begun to play again, finding a new love for the sport and connecting with other veterans through various golf groups.
Jason retired from the U.S. Army on the 1st of January 2021, with just under 21 years of service. Jason is a proud father of two boys, Zachary (14), and JT (11). He has been married to his wife Laura for 12 years, and they are also blessed with the their family dogs, Max and Allie.
