Guy Kerr

Guy Kerr is the General Counsel and Board Secretary for the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Prior to joining the Center, Mr. Kerr spent 25 years in private practice with the international, Dallas-based law firm Locke Lord LLP. From 2000 to 2013, Mr. Kerr was an executive officer and chief legal officer of Belo Corp., a NYSE-listed media company in the television, newspaper and digital businesses that was sold in 2013.

 

During his private practice, Mr. Kerr served clients in multiple industries primarily handling corporate and securities matters, mergers and acquisitions, finance, corporate governance, compliance, SEC and other regulatory matters. His public company media years expanded his experience to include government affairs, First Amendment, FCC and other media regulation, employee benefits, internal audit and other management responsibilities.

 

Over the years, Mr. Kerr has worked extensively in the nonprofit and education space, including serving in leadership roles for the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Parks for Downtown Dallas (formerly The Belo Foundation), the Highland Park Independent School District and H.P. Education Foundation, Washington & Lee University, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, and ScholarShot.

 

A native of Dallas, Mr. Kerr holds an undergraduate degree in business and accounting from Washington & Lee University where he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa and was a Rhodes Scholar nominee. Mr. Kerr also holds a law degree from Southern Methodist University where he graduated Order of the Coif and was a law review editor. In 2004, Mr. Kerr received the Robert H. Dedman Award for Ethics and Law from the Texas General Counsel Forum and the SMU Dedman School of Law.

 

Mr. Kerr and his wife Cindy have two children — Preston and Audrey.
