Texas students are behind in education — and they're expected to lose $104B in future earnings

Texas students are falling behind and it will cost them dearly in terms of future earnings, according to a new report,.

A report on student readiness from the George W. Bush Institute and Texas 2036 estimates 70 percent of jobs in Texas will require a post-secondary credential by 2036 — but just 22 percent of Texas eighth graders earn such a credential within six years of high school graduation. Students are considered ready if they have the skills and knowledge to succeed in the next grade, or post-graduation.
