Engage at the Bush Center, presented by Highland Capital Management
Prepare to be both inspired and entertained as award-winning actor and director Gary Sinise tells the story of how he found his calling: To see that those who defend this country and its freedoms are never forgotten.
Sinise was nominated for an Academy Award for his landmark role of Lt. Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump and won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of George Wallace in 1998. For nearly four decades, while simultaneously working tirelessly to help and support our nation’s military and first responders, Sinise has starred in hit films and television series like Apollo 13, Ransom, Truman, and CSI: NY.
Sinise has entertained more than a half million troops around the world playing bass guitar with his Lt. Dan Band, and in 2011 he founded the Gary Sinise Foundation with a mission to serve and honor America's defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need. “While we can never do enough to show our gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more,” Sinise says. In 2008, President Bush awarded Sinise the Presidential Citizens Medal, the nation’s second-highest civilian honor.
Col. Miguel Howe, USA (Ret.), the April and Jay Graham Fellow of the Military Service Initiative at the Bush Institute, will lead a conversation with Sinise and discuss his new memoir, The New York Times Best Seller, Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service.
