A Season of Stories: Christmas at the White House 2003

Exhibit

November 19, 2015 - January 3, 2016

In 2003, Mrs. Bush selected “A Season of Stories” as the White House holiday theme, combining the wonder of the season with the delight of classic children’s stories that have shaped American culture.

This year, the Bush Center invites you to step into the story, experiencing the holiday magic at our special exhibit and winter programs.

The Magic of Stories

White House Residence staff members designed, crafted, and decorated replicas of favorite children’s storybook characters to display throughout the White House in 2003. For the 2015 holiday season, these one-of-a-kind decorations – including characters and scenes from Clifford the Big Red Dog, Harry Potter, and the Cat in the Hat – are back on display in Dallas.

Just like the holidays, great stories have a way of bringing families together.

White House Christmas Tree

The beautiful 2003 White House Christmas tree, re-created for Museum visitors, showcases beloved literary figures on its ornaments. Like many families who decorate their trees with ornaments passed down from parents and grandparents, the 2003 Fraser fir was decorated with ornaments first used by Barbara Bush in 1989. The Christmas tree in the special exhibit will feature many of these same ornaments.
