Su Myat Mon is the lead producer for BBC Media Action, managing a team of five producers in the production of a weekly youth radio show called Lin Latt Kyal Sin (Bright Young Stars) that focuses on rural adolescents. Before joining BBC Media Action, Su Myat Mon worked as a freelance reporter at BBC for Amay Khan Pone Yate (Un-Reported World) and a radio producer for Padamyar FM.
As a migrant from Monywa in the Sagaing district now living in Yangon, Su Myat Mon understands the challenges faced by rural youth. With a background in education and parents who are themselves educators, Su Myat Mon seeks to educate the public, particularly youth, who make up roughly half of Myanmar’s population, on the importance of expressing their opinion, fighting for their rights, and asking more questions. Su Myat Mon is grateful to have the ability to impact young, rural audiences while learning about the intricacies of radio journalism and traveling all over the country. As she sees it, media can serve as a vehicle to advance the issues of young people and she wants to be in the driver’s seat.
