Thank you for registering to attend our Great North American Eclipse Viewing in the Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park on April 8, 2024, from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Below you will find important event information as you plan your arrival. Please review in detail as some event logistics may have changed. All activities will be canceled in the event of unsafe weather.

*The event will take place in the Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park, just southwest of the Bush Institute entrance.

Schedule of Events

11:30 a.m. Registration opens for eclipse glasses pick-up
12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park Tour with Master Naturalists (Optional)
12:23 p.m. Eclipse begins
1:00 – 1:30 p.m. Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park Tour with Master Naturalists (Optional)
1:15 p.m. Registration closes

*Please ensure you have picked up your eclipse glasses to move into position for the viewing.
1:40 p.m. Totality begins
1:44 p.m. Totality ends, eclipse continues
2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park Tour with Master Naturalists (Optional)
3:02 p.m. Eclipse ends

*Guests can continue enjoying the park or visit the George W. Bush Presidential Museum. Guests can purchase museum tickets here.


Event Parking

We have very limited parking on campus. Please note the parking options below.

Ride Share

Using a ride-share service is highly encouraged. Drivers may drop off and pick up at the designated location on the map below. Please note the physical address of the Bush Institute is 6100 Bush Avenue, on the west side of the complex.


Bush Center Parking

Limited event parking will be available in the Bush Center visitor lot located directly across the street from the George W. Bush Presidential Museum entrance (please reference the map below). Parking in these lots is available on a first-come, first-served basis. When using the crosswalk between the parking lot and the Bush Center, please make sure to illuminate the lights to let drivers know you are crossing. Visitors will be charged $10 per car for the first 4 hours and $1.00 for each additional 30 min. Visitors pay by credit card upon exiting the parking lot.


Eclipse Safety

Eclipse glasses from Totality over TX will be available while supplies last. Please be aware that viewing a solar eclipse improperly can lead to serious and permanent eye damage. Please visit the American Astronomical Society (AAS) and NASA websites for more information about eye safety and other necessary safety precautions to take during a solar eclipse. The Bush Center assumes no responsibility for any person causing harm to themselves or others by following unsafe eclipse viewing procedures.

What time should I arrive?

This is a come and go event. Check-in will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the entrance to the Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park near the Bush Institute to ensure guests have ample time to pick up their eclipse glasses and move into position for the viewing.

What should I wear?

We recommend dressing comfortably for spring outdoor weather. The viewing takes place entirely outside in the Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park.

What should I bring?

  • Seating will not be provided, but you are welcome to bring picnic blankets or lawn chairs.
  • Consider bringing sunscreen and a hat.
  • Please be aware that there might be ants or other insects in the park. There are two active beehives on the west side of the park.
  • Complimentary bottled water will be available while supplies last, please bring additional water if needed.

Can I bring my pet?

Pets are welcome but must be leashed. Please pick up after your pet.

Trail Information

Paved walkways lead to the entrance of the Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park. The park contains a one-mile network of both decomposed granite and mulched trails. Comfortable shoes are recommended for walking the trails. Please stay on the pathways and lawns to avoid trampling the wildflowers.

Restrooms

Restrooms are available in the George W. Bush Presidential Museum. Visitors will pass through airport-type security and metal detectors.
