Advocating for Women

American leadership and engagement to support women is critical for a peaceful world. The Bush Institute develops policies and research that advances the status of women and girls across societies.

Autocrats, extremists, and other destabilizing forces seek power, control, and obedience — characteristics of patriarchal regimes that value men at the abject expense of women’s basic human rights.

One of the most tragic ways in which this is demonstrated is the egregious indifference to the suffering of women and their children.

Societies, families, communities, and countries thrive when women and girls hold equal and active roles. For women to engage and contribute to society, they need to be healthy, educated, and safe.

Unfortunately, opportunity and inclusion continue to remain out of reach for many women and girls. American leadership and engagement to support women is critical to a peaceful world. The Bush Institute looks to educate the general public and policymakers on:

  • The violence against women and children and its role in migration, particularly in Central America
  • The impact of women on democracy, peace, and security
  • The importance of supporting the well-being of young women and adolescent girls
  • The need to advance solutions for female refugee populations
