Pashtana Durrani
Pashtana is the Executive Director and Founder of LEARN Afghanistan and a member of the Bush Institute’s Afghan Education Working Group. She established LEARN to provide education to girls in Afghanistan through tablet computers using an offline platform and has educated 7,000 children in Kandahar.
Ruslana
Ukrainian musical artist Ruslana has long been an active voice supporting democracy within her country. She continues to speak out and fight for her country today after Russia’s unprovoked invasion and continued attacks against Ukraine.
Angela Brown
Angela, a library media specialist at Francisco “Pancho” Medrano Junior High School, explains in this video from 2020 how she works each day to provide students with the knowledge and information they need to succeed. She is an integral part of the education of junior high students and is helping to inspire a love of reading in the next generation of leaders.
Tatu Msangi and Faith Mang’ehe
Tatu and her daughter, Faith, are Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation Ambassadors and HIV/AIDS advocates from Tanzania who are working to educate their community on prevention and treatment. As beneficiaries of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief themselves, they are now dedicated to helping others through the same program.
Leslie Zimmerman
Leslie is a retired Sergeant in the United States Army, a mom, an author, and a veteran advocate. In 2015, she explained how she uses her own experiences as a veteran to help others in her community.
