Today, George W. Bush Presidential Center kicks off the final day of the 5th annual Warrior Open, a competitive 36-hole golf tournament for United States military personnel seriously wounded or injured since September 11, 2001.  The Warrior Open, part of the Bush Institute's Military Service Initiative, honors the service, sacrifice, resilience and leadership of our post-9/11 veterans and military families.

At the Bush Institute, we are focused on developing leaders to take on difficult challenges; fostering policy that helps improve the quality of life for people here at home and around the world; and taking action to save lives.  With this in mind, the George W. Bush Presidential Center has asked our tournament partners about what this event means to them.

From the Fisher House Foundation:

Why is it important for your organization to be involved with the Warrior Open?

The Warrior Open is important because it demonstrates the power of sport in recovery for our wounded, injured and ill service members.  These men and women face tremendous challenges, and often it is sport that helps them focus and gives them a tangible way to see the progress they are making.  These are elite athletes. It’s an amazing thing to observe.

How does supporting an event like the Warrior Open help the community?

Supporting events like the Warrior Open lets the community become a part of the recovery process.  They have a chance to not only see the amazing people who have volunteered to serve our nation, but to witness how far these men and women have come on their journey to recovery.  The community has the opportunity to get involved, participate, and encourage these heroes to continue their progress.

From La Quinta Inn & Suites:

Why is it important for your organization to be involved with the Warrior Open?

Our involvement with the Warrior Open gives La Quinta Inns & Suites an opportunity to honor and recognize the incredible resilience, courage and strength of our wounded warriors and their families who have turned their challenges into triumphs.  We congratulate them on their extraordinary efforts not only in their rehabilitation but also in their ability to play well enough to qualify as a tournament player!  La Quinta is also honored to support President Bush in his efforts to recognize the service and sacrifice of our wounded veterans through his Team 43 events – joining him in acknowledging the valuable role sports plays in the rehabilitation process.

How does supporting an event like the Warrior Open help the community?

Supporting an event such as the Bush Warrior Open helps to generate awareness of how sports can be a significant aspect of our veterans’ rehabilitation from the wounds of war whether physical, emotional or psychological.  It shows not only support of our warriors but also for the non-profit organizations that have provided and continue to provide assistance to our service members.  La Quinta Inns & Suites believes the Bush Warrior Open serves to inspire others to persevere in their recovery and reintegration as well as inspire those in the community to become involved with such events and organizations that benefit our military and their families.
