Last week the inaugural class of Presidential Leadership Scholars graduated in a ceremony at the George W. Bush Presidential Center. At graduation, Scholar Jake Harriman delivered an inspiring speech and introduction for the conversation with Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

As part of the PLS curriculum, each Scholar is required to develop a personal leadership project. Jake Harriman’s organization, Nuru, is creating lasting meaningful choices for impoverished farmers in conflict states to create greater global stability and security by combining special operations combat experience with a new poverty eradication model. Nuru seeks to become the “go-to” nation-building platform – enabling stability and choices in fragile nations. Presidential Leadership Scholars has enabled Nuru to elevate the visibility of their approach and gain the support needed to launch their first conflict state project, and it has helped Jake refine his communication skills to gain buy-in for Nuru among key stakeholders.
