1.  Former Secretary of State and Chair of The George W. Bush Institute Board of Advisors, Dr. Condoleezza Rice continues to promote the necessity of accountability within our Nation’s schools as a fundamental tool in combating the growing American education crisis, believing: "There should be a coordinated, national effort to assess whether students are learning the skills and knowledge necessary to safeguard America's future security and prosperity. The results should be publicized to engage the American people in addressing problems and building on successes." Dr. Rice brought a great deal of attention to education reform in her Council on Foreign Relations study, which asserted, “Educational failure puts the United States' future economic prosperity, global position, and physical safety at risk." The George W. Bush Center is proud of Dr. Rice for boldly and unapologetically making education reform and accountability centerpieces of our national discourse. 2.  The Global Report Card continues to inform discussion.  Did you know 94 percent of all U.S. School districts have average math achievement below the 67th percentile?  Seeking to inform parents, teachers and community leaders about the need for greater accountability and achievement in America’s schools, The Global Report Card offers a comparable research database on every district and state in the country.  Check out how America’s students match-up against the rest of the world.  The data may surprise you.

3.  The Alliance to Reform Education Leadership (AREL) has collected data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia on conditions affecting school leaders and policies pertaining to principal placement and licensure.  This is the first of its kind information collected and all data and findings will be put on our website when released in late fall.

4.   AREL continues to select its second cohort. Inspired by the success of its first 19 network programs, AREL will soon be announcing its second cohort of affiliates.  Stayed tuned to see if a program in your state is active in changing the role of America’s principals.

5.  The George W. Bush Institute’s Education Reform Initiative impacts its local Dallas community.  This past month, the Bush Institute gathered leaders in Dallas education reform to discuss the current educational landscape in Dallas and how we can come together to ensure every child is given a quality education.  Please visit here for the full story.
