With the Chen Case, U.S. Credibility is on the Line:  Up until his April 22nd escape, Chen Guangcheng  had been silenced and detained by the Chinese government for speaking out against China’s “one-child” policy.   After his escape, Chen’s family members were either taken into custody or placed under guard by Chinese security forces.  Bob Fu, founder and president of the China Aid Association, recognizes that “This is a pivotal moment for U.S. human rights diplomacy,” arguing that “the United States must stand firmly with this broadly popular individual or risk losing credibility as a defender of freedom and the rule of law.” (Washington Post, Bob Fu) Ed.
