A Conversation with Laura Bush: “Education Is The Key”: Kevin Ryan sits down with Mrs. Laura Bush to discuss her work with children, the Bush Institute’s Women’s Initiative, her daughters, and who she draws inspiration from. Ryan) Women in Egypt anxiously await the presidential run-off later this month that will decide what kind of democracy the country will be, and whether or not their efforts in the Arab Spring pay dividends or return them to a marginalized state – albeit under different leaders. (The Guardian) In a late-breaking development last week at the World Health Assembly, an agreement was reached on the first-ever global target on non-communicable diseases. According to the NCD Alliance, the 194 member states of the WHO have endorsed the goal of reducing premature deaths due to NCDs by 25% by 2025. The NCD Alliance is a network of over 2,000 civil society organizations in more than 170 countries. The four founding members are the International Diabetes Federation, the Union for International Cancer Control, the World Heart Federation, and the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.
