What We're Reading | February 3, 2012

February 3, 2012 by George W. Bush Presidential Center

The man who would defeat Hugo Chavez: With the Venezuelan Presidential election looming, the opposition has begun to centralize their efforts under the young state governor, Henrique Capriles Radonski.   Capriles makes it clear that he is leading the transformation in Venezuela by saying, “I’m in the process of constructing a political change… I don’t represent the old establishment”. (The Christian Science Monitor, Girish Gupta) How lowering taxes on the rich can raise revenue: The director of the Bush Institute's 4 Percent Growth Project,  Amity Shlaes makes the case for lowering taxes on the wealthy to create revenue. "America has passed its tipping point on taxes. In fact, we are officially tipped.” (Delaware Online, Amity Shlaes) Principal training: The missing link in effective data use in schools?:  Joe Siedlecki’s latest blog post addresses the importance of principal training around data driven instruction and how “the failure to train principals in the critical role that data can play in school turnarounds will inevitably dull the impact of data-savvy teachers.”   (Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Joe Siedlecki)
