Stepping back from the debates over the debt ceiling and jittery stock markets, Kevin Warsh and Jeb Bush offer two ideas worth noting in today’s Wall Street Journal.  First, to solve the problems facing the nation we’ll need to grow the economy by thinking a little bigger.  We need “Grand Strategy,” not ad hoc programs, which will spark a broad economic revival.

Second, they write that a stronger economy “is not just about economics.”  Growing the economy “unleashes human potential.  It turns personal aspirations into positive achievements. And it lays the predicate for a better, stronger, more prosperous and opportunity-filled America.” They also note that the lackluster economic recovery has “dashed the hopes and dimmed the prospects of too many of our citizens. And it has put America's place in the world at risk.”

There is a virtue to prosperity that is often overlooked in the coverage of fiscal and monetary policies and the unemployment numbers.  Economic growth gives millions of Americans the ability to realize their dreams, pursue creative endeavors, and make new discoveries that raise living standards.
