Sergeant Thomas Brooks deployed twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan.  On the morning of January 21, 2011, Brooks was entering a hide site when he stepped on a pressure plate IED in Afghanistan.  He suffered severe tissue damage to his left leg and underwent a muscle flap and skin grafts to save it, broken bones in his left foot, and his right leg was amputated up to the knee. 

Brooks began walking six weeks after his injuries and began playing golf again three months later.  For his service, he has received many awards including the Purple Heart, Navy Achievement Medal with Valor and Combat Action Ribbon. 

Currently, Brooks is attending Baylor University and engaged to his amazing fiancé, Stephanie. They live in Hewitt, TX.
