Kap Khan Khual works at the International Republican Institute (IRI) as a program officer, implementing workshops focused on democratic campaign techniques. In this capacity, Kap Khan Khual has interacted with nearly all of the 91 political parties officially recognized in Myanmar, aspiring to contribute meaningfully to Myanmar’s transition to a democratic federal union.
Prior to joining IRI, Kap Khan Khual was active with the Zomi Congress for Democracy and with the United Nationalities Alliance. He received the Unknown Hero Award from the exiled Myanmar community of Japan for his sacrifices as a political prisoner. A family of dissidents, Kap Khan Khual's great-great-grandfather and father were also political prisoners.
