Dr. Klaus Desmet is the Altshuler Centennial Interdisciplinary Professor of Cities, Regions and Globalization at Southern Methodist University. He holds an MSc in business and engineering from the Université catholique de Louvain and a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University. Prior to coming to SMU, he was a professor at Universidad Carlos III in Madrid and held visiting positions at Stanford University and the University of Illinois. His research focuses on urban economics, international trade, and economic growth. In 2010 he was awarded the August Lösch Prize for outstanding contributions in the field of regional science.
