In addition to collaborative working group sessions and keynote speaker, General Martin Dempsey, we’re looking forward to delving into the topics below. We will announce confirmed panelists, specific timing, and more event details in the coming weeks.
“What We’ve Learned as a Country”
For more than 100 years, America’s veteran service organizations have advocated for veterans’ benefits and supported veterans and their families throughout multiple wartime and post-war eras. We will look back at these experiences, in light of today’s challenges, for the purposes of preparing to best serve veterans and military families in the future.
“Relentless Innovation”
Innovation is America’s greatest strength and Americans are relentless in their pursuit of progress. Such a powerful combination has created new ways to care and support veterans and military families. Healing through humor, nature, and music can reduce anxiety, stress, and depression while helping rediscover one’s sense of purpose and belonging.
“Veteran Employment”
America has been hiring veterans, which represents tremendous progress over the past decade. But, we wonder, whether the U.S. economy is employing veterans and military spouses to the full potential.
“Veteran Education”
Against the backdrop of a looming demographic cliff and recent research highlighting poor returns on investment for veteran education benefits, we will explore actionable steps to enhance university accountability and to improve outcomes for student veterans and their families.
“The Veteran Narrative(s)”
Tracing the journey of public opinion of American veterans from the unified support during World War II through the contentious reception of Vietnam veterans to the post-9/11 era of heightened patriotism, we will consider some unintended consequences – and benefits – of simplified labels on veterans and military families.
