Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program

The George W. Bush Institute’s Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program is increasing the impact and developing the skills of those who serve our nation's veterans and their families. The program is aimed at bold leaders from across the country – including civilians, veterans, military spouses, and active-duty service members – who are addressing the most challenging issues facing our veteran and military family communities.

We're looking for leaders who:
  • Demonstrate leadership in their careers and/or communities and are ready to take that leadership to the next level (usually at least 10 years of experience)
  • Possess a strong commitment to serving veterans and their families
  • Demonstrate an ability to self-assess with humility and understand their strengths and weaknesses as a leader
  • Have a moderate-to-high level of expertise in one or more issues relevant to supporting the veteran and military family community

OUR SCHOLARS IN ACTION:
Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program alumni, Dave Lee and Elizabeth Pletcher, joined forces to create HonorCare, which provides high-quality health and wellness support to Medal of Honor Recipients and their families.
Dennis Miller
The personal leadership project of Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program alumni, Dennis Miller, brought national attention to his grandmother’s service in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only majority African American Women’s Corp unit from World War II. His efforts resulted in influencing 6888 to receive the Congressional Gold Medal.
Beth Conlin
Beth Conlin, 2021 Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program Scholar, works to ensure military spouses and dependents have access to employment even while stationed abroad.
