The Bush Center Presents the 2022 NexPoint Lecture: Author Bill Browder on Russia

New York Times best-selling author Bill Browder headlines Engage at the Bush Center, presented by NexPoint, on Sept. 21

DALLAS, TEXAS – The George W. Bush Presidential Center welcomes author and Russian corruption fighter Bill Browder, Head of the Global Magnitsky Justice Campaign, to the stage on Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. CT. This special NexPoint Lecture edition of Engage at the Bush Center will detail Browder’s pursuit to take down President Vladimir Putin.

In 2005, Russian government officials committed and attempted to pin a $230 million fraud on Browder. His Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky uncovered the fraud. Magnitsky was tortured and beaten to death in a Moscow jail. Browder made it his life mission to go after Magnitsky’s killers and make sure they faced justice.

Browder will discuss his new book, Freezing Order: A True Story of Money Laundering, Murder, and Surviving Vladimir Putin’s Wrath, and share his harrowing story of exposing Putin’s corruption. He will be joined by David J. Kramer, the Bradford M. Freeman Managing Director of Global Policy at the Bush Institute and an expert on Russia.

After Magnitsky’s death, Browder appealed to Congress to authorize sanctions against foreign officials determined to have committed human rights violations. Kramer, who was President of Freedom House at the time, supported the measure. In 2012, the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act was signed into law.

Moderated by Bush Center President and CEO Kenneth A. Hersh, the panel will discuss Bill’s harrowing story, the real situation on the ground in Russia, the conflict in Ukraine, and the geopolitics of the region.

Tickets are sold out, but the event will be livestreamed here.

Media should credential to attend no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19.  Media logistics and directions will be sent out once credentialing closes. For more information, please visit the event page or contact Andrew Kaufmann at [email protected] (214-200-4313).
