Bush Center Presents The Boeing Conversation with Admiral James Stavridis

Event will celebrate 43 individuals in Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program who are improving post-9/11 vet transitions.

DALLAS—On Friday, October 11, the George W. Bush Presidential Center will celebrate the Bush Institute’s 2019 Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program class with a special capstone ceremony event, including The Boeing Conversation with Admiral James Stavridis, USN (Ret.).

Admiral James Stavridis is an Operating Executive of The Carlyle Group, following five years as the 12th Dean of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.  A retired 4-star officer in the U.S. Navy, he led the NATO Alliance in global operations from 2009 to 2013 as Supreme Allied Commander with responsibility for Afghanistan, Libya, the Balkans, Syria, counter piracy, and cyber security.  He also served as Commander of U.S. Southern Command, with responsibility for all military operations in Latin America from 2006-2009.  He earned more than 50 medals, including 28 from foreign nations in his 37-year military career.  He is also Chief International Security and Diplomacy Analyst for NBC News and a monthly columnist for TIME magazine.

The conversation with Admiral Stavridis, moderated by the Director of the Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative, Colonel Matthew Amidon, USMCR, will be the highlight of a capstone ceremony event to recognize 43 individuals in the 2019 class of the Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program.

The Stand-To program develops the skills of those who serve our nation’s veterans and helps increase their impact. Scholars are rising leaders – both veterans and non-veterans – from a wide range of sectors who are working to improve post-9/11 veteran outcomes. Throughout the five-month program, each participant has worked on a personal leadership project, which allows them to implement what they learn in the program in service of improving veteran outcomes across the United States.

The program will be live streamed at bushcenter.org.
