Media Availability with President George W. Bush and Warriors at 7th W100K in Crawford, TX

The W100K began in 2011 for United States military personnel seriously wounded or injured since September 11, 2001. Since 2011, more than 140 warriors have participated in the Military Service Initiative’s Team 43 Sports, which include the W100K and the Warrior Open golf tournament.

DALLAS — At the start of the 7th W100K, a mountain bike ride at President and Mrs. Bush’s Prairie Chapel Ranch near Crawford, TX, President Bush will hold a media availability with returning warrior alumni. The W100K, part of the Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative, showcases the courage, commitment, and resilience of these warriors and underscores the importance of sports as part of the rehabilitation process for our men and women injured on the front lines. This year’s bike ride, on October 7-8, will honor alumni of Team 43 who have participated in previous W100K rides and highlight the work of the Bush Institute’s Warrior Wellness Alliance.

The W100K began in 2011 for United States military personnel seriously wounded or injured since September 11, 2001. Since 2011, more than 140 warriors have participated in the Military Service Initiative’s Team 43 Sports, which include the W100K and the Warrior Open golf tournament. Many of them are featured in President Bush’s book and corresponding exhibit currently at the George W. Bush Presidential Center, Portraits of Courage: A Commander-in-Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors.

To help more veterans access high-quality care and reduce stigmas associated with the invisible wounds of war, the Bush Institute this year announced the Warrior Wellness Alliance, linking peer-to-peer veteran networks like Team 43 with best-in-class health care providers.

Following the media availability, members of the media will be escorted along the trail route to view the peloton during the ride. Media will be invited to remain at Prairie Chapel Ranch until 11 a.m. Videography and photography is allowed. Members of the media who plan to attend the media availability MUST register here by 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
