On May 18, 2015, Mrs. Laura Bush will visit Blackshear Elementary Fine Arts Academy in Austin, Texas, to announce the 2015 grants from the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries. More than $820,000 in grants will be awarded to 123 schools in 35 states.
Six schools in Austin ISD will receive grants up to $7,000 each: Blackshear Elementary Fine Arts Academy, Anita Uphaus Early Childhood Center, J. Frank Dobie Pre-Kindergarten Center, Margaret T. Reilly Elementary School, Palm Elementary School, and William B. Travis High School.

In January, Blackshear Elementary Fine Arts Academy, an Austin Independent School District school, was the only Central Texas school to be nominated as a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The school received the nomination for demonstrating overall academic excellence or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
