Mrs. Laura Bush stands in this year’s special exhibit, First Ladies: Style of Influence. The special exhibit examined how the role of the first lady has evolved over time, and how first ladies have used their position to advance diplomacy and other social, cultural, and political initiatives.

The Bush Center hosted Austin ISD, Granite School District, Chesterfield County Public Schools, and Fort Worth ISD in the first session of the School Leadership Initiative District Cohort. During a three day period, the four teams participated in team-building and coaching exercises and conversations with experts that gave them tools and resources to support their work.

At The Art & Leadership of Winston Churchill, a part of the Engage at the Bush Center, presented by Highland Capital Management series, President Bush debuted his paintings of Sir Winston Churchill. A panel discussed what made Churchill an effective leader and how those lessons can be applied to today’s issues.

President Bush celebrated his 72nd birthday with one of his favorite activities — mountain biking the trails of Prairie Chapel Ranch with the veterans of Team 43. After the ride, Sgt. First Class Michael “Rod” Rodriguez presented President Bush with a homemade birthday cake.

Each year, President Bush and President Clinton are reunited for the Presidential Leadership Scholars graduation ceremony. This year’s event was held in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Liberty and Leadership Scholars — young men and women who are working to build democracy in their home country of Burma — traveled to Seoul, South Korea, where they learned about South Korea’s democratic transition and economic growth.
