We are thrilled to welcome the 2015 Women’s Initiative Fellowship Class! These 14 inspiring Tunisian women make up our fourth Fellowship class, the second class from Tunisia, and they expand the Women’s Initiative Fellowship to 64 Fellows.

Tunisian women have historically been presented with opportunity, particularly related to education and the economy.  But now more than ever, Tunisian women recognize the importance of their active participation in the development of their country and are eager to develop leadership skills that will help them sustain their rights and build a strong civil society. Each woman in this class defined her specific vision for the future of her country and described how she plans to have a significant effect.

The 2015 Fellows traveled to the United States last week for the start of the Fellowship program and will spend the next three weeks participating in courses at SMU, visiting civil society organizations and Fortune 500 companies, and shadowing their American mentors. They will return to Tunisia at the end of the month for ongoing training and to implement an action plan they develop to improve their community and country over the next year.

We do not get to choose the country or generation of our birth – but we do get to choose if we are going to do something to make our mark on society.  That is what these women are doing, and we are proud to be supporting them as they transform Tunisia.

Meet the class of 2015, and keep up with their travels on the Bush Center Facebook and Flickr pages.
