This week, we’re reading two articles that advocate strong accountability systems in schools to promote student achievement. The Foundation for Excellence in Education sets the record straight on Common Core State Standards. Federal and state education reform efforts, including No Child Left Behind and Common Core State Standards, hold promise for turning around our public schools and providing students with a high quality education that prepares them for the future. But, if there is no accountability for student success, then these initiatives become empty promises.
