Brendan Miniter and Amity Shlaes of the Bush Institute joined John Batchelor in studio on Tuesday night to discuss the Institute's new book, "The 4% Solution." The book contains a foreword by President Bush, an introduction by James K. Glassman, and 21 chapters worth of solutions to achieve 4% annual growth. Among all these excellent ideas are five chapters written by winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics. Miniter, Shlaes, and Batchelor were joined by two chapter authors — David Malpass and Vernon Smith. Malpass is the president of Encima Global and wrote a chapter that argues sound currency is needed for growth. Investors need confidence that the value of their investments will not erode over time — otherwise they'll simply invest elsewhere. Smith is the 2002 winner of the Nobel Prize. With co-author Steven Gjerstad, Smith writes that housing is a better indicator of an oncoming recession and the end of recession than is business investment. So what does Smith think of the current housing situation? Listen to the entire segment of The John Batchelor Show to find out.
