Watch the new interview with Jestina Mukoko, a civil society activist from Zimbabwe, on the Freedom Collection.  A former television journalist, Jestina cofounded the Zimbabwe Peace Project, a nongovernmental organization that monitors and documents political violence in Zimbabwe.  In 2008, she was abducted, held incommunicado, and tortured by state agents for her activism. In her interview, Jestina Mukoko describes her harrowing ordeal and the aftereffects of her imprisonment.  But she remains committed to her work, saying, “I think as a human rights defender, one can never be very safe in Zimbabwe, because we are always considered to be agents of regime change.  And yet, the work that I do is very clear, that I am concerned about the violence that affects Zimbabweans by other Zimbabweans.” Watch her interview here.
