Earlier this week, President Bush had the chance to meet with several of our Alliance to Reform Education Leadership (AREL) partners, and others that we consider friends of the work – people such as Wendy Kopp, Chancellor Dennis Walcott, Jean Desravines, Jon Schnur, and Courtney Welsh. Great conversation about a critical topic and here is why. There are around 91,000 school principals in the US. If more of these individuals were selected well and thoroughly prepared to lead, our schools would be different places. Of course, there are a lot of other elements one has to get right in developing a truly successful school – but it starts at the top. Our colleague at Time magazine wrote this piece after the meeting.
