First Laura Bush Book Club Event Brings Best-Selling Author of “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” to the Bush Center

DALLAS (October 28, 2019) – On November 4, the George W. Bush Presidential Center will present the “Laura Bush Book Club with The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency Author Alexander McCall Smith,” as part of the “Engage at the Bush Center, presented by Highland Capital Management” series. Meredith Land of NBC 5 will moderate a discussion on the first book in the series, which tells the story of the delightfully cunning and enormously engaging Precious Ramotswe, Botswana’s leading, and only, female private detective. Auditorium seating for this event is sold out, but the program will be live streamed at bushcenter.org and via Facebook Live.

The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency received two Booker Judges’ Special Recommendations and was voted one of the International Books of the Year and the Millennium by the Times Literary Supplement. The series has sold over 20 million copies in the English language alone. The 20th book in the series, To the Land of Long Lost Friends, was published on October 22.

The Engage at the Bush Center, presented by Highland Capital Management series brings newsmakers, thought leaders, and authors to the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Thought-provoking – and often entertaining – panel discussions and keynote conversations allow our guests to connect with the Bush Center in a meaningful way and dive deeper into many of today’s most pressing policy areas and issues.
