Deepfakes: Addressing the Threat to Our Democracy

The George W. Bush Presidential Center hosts first virtual Engage at the Bush Center, presented by Highland Capital Management program

DALLAS (August 25, 2020) – On August 27, the George W. Bush Presidential Center will present “Deepfakes: Addressing the Threat to our Democracy,” as part of the Engage at the Bush Center, presented by Highland Capital Management series. Ken Hersh, CEO of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, will moderate the discussion with renowned experts Dave Copps, CEO and co-founder of Worlds, Inc.; Glenn Gaffney, executive vice president and director of InQTel Labs and former CIA director of science and technology; Jeffrey McGregor, CEO of Truepic, whose mission is to “restore trust in digital imagery”; and Jessica Yellin, award-winning former  White House correspondent for ABC News and CNN and founder of the popular #NewsNotNoise Instagram feed.

The panel will discuss “deepfakes” – videos that are manipulated through complex machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence, often for ill intent. As the technology rapidly advances and deepfakes become more difficult to identify, the threat to our democracy is real.

This event will be held virtually at 5:30 p.m. Central on August 27, and registration is free and required to watch the live stream.  For more information, please visit www.bushcenter.org/engage or email Katie Kardell at [email protected].
