Elliott Abrams, Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, writes on his “Pressure Points” blog about the visit of United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-Moon for a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement.  Abrams notes that 400 Iranian dissidents, activists and intellectuals signed a letter to the Secretary General, appealing for his intervention in Iran’s dismal human rights situation.   But as Abrams notes, “Iran is a dictatorship where freedom of thought, press freedom, academic freedom, and free elections are non-existent. But we can be sure that these inconvenient facts will be ignored by the delegates gathered in Tehran.”  Read the full post here.
