Deputy Administrator for Administration, Mississippi Department of Human Services
Will Simpson’s Personal Leadership Project is to develop and implement a six to eight week leadership program focusing on critical life skills for students aging-out of foster care. Mississippi has 5,000 foster children in custody, many of whom face challenges and remain high-risk upon aging-out.
The program will help them gain stronger communication and social skills to combat these challenges. The program’s curriculum has already been presented for feedback from a focus group. Participants for the inaugural class have been selected and kickoff is scheduled for late July. The long-term goal is to replicate the program elsewhere throughout the state.
