Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan on Serving Veterans

This week, in honor of Veterans Day, the Bush Center will feature a series of posts that highlight the strength and resilience of the brave men and women who volunteered to wear our Nation’s uniform.

Today, we hear from Brian Moynihan, Chief Executive Officer of Bank of America, about how Bank of America employs and serves veterans.

Bank of America has been serving our nation’s military for nearly 100 years. We are proud of what we do to help more than 2 million active duty and veteran families live their financial lives. Our support for the military includes managing the Department of Defense contract to staff and manage 65 financial centers on military installations in 10 countries around the world.

In recent years, we have expanded on our commitment by helping our military men and women and their families as they transition from active duty service to civilian life. This year marks our 3rd consecutive year of hiring more than 2000 veterans and military spouses. These new teammates join the thousands of veterans who work here, providing our company with talented, seasoned leaders. They also help us to better understand the challenges our military and their families face and what we can all do to help them as they serve us.  The feedback we get helps shape our broader efforts to ensure military teammates have the resources, training, and education to further their careers.

Our support for veterans and their families extends beyond what we do as an employer.  Over the last several years, we also have partnered with veteran support organizations in local communities around the country to donate homes to veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. On July 22 of this year, retired Sergeant Seth Musikant received the 2000th home we have provided through this program since 2012.  Sgt Musikant enlisted in 2004 at age 19 to become a combat medic.  For his service including five deployments to Iraq, he was awarded the Purple Heart and Army Commendation Medal for Valor.  He is one of the millions we pay tribute to this Veterans Day.

We chose to become one of the first partners of the Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative so that we could share our learnings and expertise with other committed organizations and provide collective support and resources to service men and women and their families. It is obvious that President Bush has a special connection with veterans, and we value the relationships we have developed by being a part of the Initiative.

Veterans Day is a special time for all of us to take a moment to recognize and thank those volunteers in uniform who help keep us safe and free. At Bank of America, my teammates and I consider it a special charge to do everything we can to help provide our military and their families a bright and sustainable future. That is an honor and a responsibility we gratefully pursue.
