Bush Institute Releases Call to Action on North Korean Human Rights

This week the George W. Bush Institute’s Human Freedom initiative released Light Through the Darkness, a comprehensive call to action for putting the issue of North Korean human rights in the spotlight of international attention.

Over the past year, the Bush Institute brought together experts, government officials, North Korean refugees, and leaders in civil society and business in a bipartisan effort to help inform a new path forward for improving the human condition in North Korea.

Light Through the Darkness puts forward a series of recommendations for raising global awareness of the suffering of the North Korean people, supporting and empowering refugees, further breaking North Korea’s information barriers, and putting human rights front and center for governments in their interactions with the North Korean regime and its supporters.

Amanda Schnetzer, Director of the Human Freedom initiative, and Victor Cha, a Fellow in Human Freedom, also co-authored a piece on North Korean human rights and the work of the Bush Institute this week for the Huffington Post.
