In case you missed it, The Washington Post published an editorial this week by North Korean political prison camp survivor Shin Dong-hyuk. He is the only known person to be born and raised in North Korea’s brutal gulags and to escape to freedom. Shin’s editorial is an open letter to Dennis Rodman, who continues traveling to the country to spend time with its dictator, Kim Jong Un. Shin tells about his horrific experiences inside the North Korean camps, including malnutrition, abuse and exhaustion from forced labor, and asks Rodman to use his “friendship” to help put an end to such atrocities.

The Bush Center welcomed Shin in October as part of our Freedom Advocate Initiative. He answered a variety of questions from Facebook and Twitter users about his experiences and his ongoing efforts. Read about his visit and see answers to his questions.
