The Salute Military Golf Association (SMGA) began with the notion that golf can improve the mental and physical condition of each and every post-9/11 wounded warrior by providing a sanctuary away from the battlefield. Our mission is to provide rehabilitative golf experiences and family-inclusive golf opportunities for wounded veterans, whether their injuries are visible or not. What began as a single clinic series at a driving range in suburban Maryland has grown into a fully established 501 (c) (3) corporation that has provided clinics, lessons, and support at more than 10 locations across the country. In fact, our American Golfer program is a new effort to reach those warriors who do not reside near one of our chapter or partner groups. To date, we have provided more than 700 sets of fitted clubs to wounded warriors who have shown a commitment to golf as a form of therapy; offered at least one golf lesson to more than 1,000individual wounded veterans; and enabled the game of golf to assist in the transition from battle to civilian life for countless numbers of our nation’s soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen. We strive each day to live up to our motto: Empowering Wounded Warriors One Fairway at a Time.

We have been told by dozens of wounded warriors that the game of golf has opened the door to a new world for them. Events like the Warrior Open encourage our nation’s heroes to step through that same door.
