Amity Shlaes highlighted Tuesday's Chicago tax conference with an Op-Ed for the Chicago Tribune. Shlaes writes that the reason Chicago is losing its residents is that it has become more of a "deal city" and less of a "price city." While striking deals with favored interest groups and industries may be politically advantageous, the problem is that someone has to foot the cost of offering special deals. That someone is the average taxpayer, and taxpayers have become weary of ever-higher rates, leading them to leave the state.
