George W. Bush Institute Launches Stand-To Veteran Leadership Initiative

Program designed to develop leadership skills of individuals who are serving our nation’s veterans and help scale their impact

Dallas, Texas — Today, the George W. Bush Institute launched the Stand-To Veteran Leadership Initiative, a first-of-its-kind program aimed at individuals serving our nation’s veterans who are motivated to broaden their skillsets, knowledge, and influence across the country. The inaugural class will begin in June 2018. Online applications will be accepted at www.bushcenter.org/veteranleadership through December 1, 2017.

The program, part of the Bush Institute’s commitment to improving transition and outcomes for post-9/11 veterans and their families, builds on the Bush Institute’s existing leadership and military service programming, including the success of the Stand-To summit held earlier this year in Washington, D.C., where more than 70 organizations across sectors came together to outline priorities on veteran health and wellbeing, education, and employment.

The Stand-To Veteran Leadership Initiative will grow the leadership skills of individuals who are serving our nation’s veterans and help them scale their impact through leadership projects and network.

Throughout the six-month program, participants will hear from a variety of nationally known and distinguished professionals, educators, and experts in post-9/11 veteran transition issues. The class will gather for an opening session in Dallas and in the following months attend four weekend sessions split between Dallas and other venues across the country.  The program will conclude with a final session and closing ceremony at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in the fall of 2018.

Ideal candidates are rising leaders – both veterans and non-veterans – from a wide range of sectors who are working to improve post-9/11 veteran outcomes. They are likely to hold a variety of roles including leader or board member of a veteran-serving non-profit, a funder focused in the veteran space, a business or community leader, as well as leaders in government and active military service members.
